This would be a good thing to check first of all and relatively easy to do (updating your windows drivers). I'm just posting this to remind people that sometimes it's the simple things that work, even if we don't know why they are working. Yes, those USB3 drivers really do make the whole windows USB subsystem much more efficient and faster to use. When I checked the USB3 box in settings, now the VirtualBox USB driver showed up in Device Manager and the USB drives worked a lot faster and snappier in the guest, even when using USB2 sticks or plugged in to a USB2 port. I wanted to see if they worked here first of all and they did. The thing was, I was using the USB2 checkbox in VBox settings. The latest drivers are from 2017.īoth your eXtensible host controller and root hub!īut still, the USB controllers section in Device Manager did not show a Virtual Box entry. Mine were from 2014, though they worked fine on everything else. That's a shame coz I took a load of screenshots. When I first started getting these error messages I could not understand it as the devices had been 'captured' and I also had feedback from the system saying the USB drivers were being installed: I was just about to post a request for help, then I tried one last thing. I followed all the guides and troubleshooting stuff out there. ![]() I spent 2/3 days trying to figure this out. ![]() The USB sticks were 'captured' but they could not be used. I was using Linux images of Manjaro and MX Linux as guests, as well as a WinX PE Live CD (to check that it wasn't just a Linux problem). I tried over half a dozen USB sticks (both USB2 and USB3). It could be reproduced in my environment.I kept getting the dreaded 'Failed to attach the USB device. Thankfully I don't often need to import audio CDs. Turn on Passthrough, boot guest, start iTunes: I can import audio CDs, but I get the above error message when I connect the iPhone to the host.iTunes connects OK and can backup/restore/sync, but cannot detect/use audio CDs so I cannot import CDs. Turn off Passthrough, boot guest, start iTunes, connect the iPhone to the host.In my case it's linked to the Passthrough option on the CD-DVD driver in Settings/Storage: When I start the guest and try connect this device to it, the Virtualbox interface hang to about 8-10 seconds and after that I see the error:įailed to attach the USB device AMICON VPNLDR 1.5 to the virtual machine oldlinux_image.įailed to create a proxy device for the USB device.
